Intragna is located about
5 mi (8 km) west of Locarno at the entrance to the Centovalli
Valley (Valley of hundred valleys).
By help of its emblem,
the highest church tower of Ticino (65 m), you can recognize
the village easily
upon your arrival in the area.
Settlements dating as far back as two milleniums are proven
in the region. The name of the village Intragna most probably
is derived from Inter amnes (=latin for "between
the rivers") and describes perfectly the location of Intragna
on a rock projection right at the confluence of the rivers
Melezza, from the Centovalli Valley, and Isorno, from the
Onsernone Valley.
